Adjusting to coping, help is available

Adjusting to life after you have lost someone close is never easy.  Here are some beneficial suggestions of help that is available.

Please visit  or call Pacific Gardens Chapel (1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, Ca 95062 831-423-5721) to receive a complementary brochure on dealing with grief titled “My Careletter, Understanding Grief” or our brochure on dealing with a bereaved family titled “My Careletter, What Can I Say” Friends & Family Issue.

Hospice of Santa Cruz County offers a variety of Grief Support Services.  You DO NOT have to have used their services for the end of your loved one’s life.  Anyone can take advantage of their support.  They offer individual grief counseling, grief support groups, children and adolescent programs, English & Spanish Drop-In support groups, and much more.  For more information please visit their website www.hospicesantacruz.org or call 831-430-3000.

Pacific Gardens Chapel in conjunction with Hospice also hosts a Bereavement Support Group several times a year at our facilities.  We mail out fliers to notify you of the dates and times of our four week workshops as they approach.

Consider joining a Bereavement Chat Room during those times you feel alone.  Perhaps the middle of the night is when you’re most lonely, this can be a great tool to connect to others with the same feelings and similar situations as yourself.  Take comfort in just reading what others post until you are comfortable enough to begin to share, as well.   Please note that Pacific Gardens Chapel does not have an affiliation with any internet based group, and takes no responsibility for what others may post during these chat sessions.

There are also specialty organizations to deal with specific types of loss.  Compassionate Friends is an organization supporting parents who have survived the death of a child, at any age.  Visit www.compassionatefriends.org for more information.  W.I.N.G.S Group (Warm Interactions Navigating Grief after Suicide) is a support group for those who have lost someone to suicide.  Call the Administrative Office at 831-459-9373 for more information, or visit Pacific Gardens Chapel for leaflets with more information.
