Obituary of Louise English

Louise English passed away peacefully at her Santa Cruz home at the age of 96. Louise was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts and moved to Santa Cruz in 1940 with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alves. A graduate of San Jose High School, she studied for 1 year at Merritt Business School in Oakland. She was employed for several years with Coast Counites Gas and Electric Company.

Louise married Joe O. English and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage, raised three children, and helped her parents conduct a Portuguese Language radio program from the now defunct KHUB Radio in Watsonville. After her three children were grown, Louise worked for Santa Cruz County Elections Office until her retirement in 1984.

Joe and Louise enjoyed their retirement years and travelled extensively. They enjoyed several cruises, trips to Missouri to visit Joe's family and to Hawaii to visit their daughter and her family. She and Joe also traveled by car throughout the U.S. They also made three trips to Portugal to visit the place where her family first originated. Louise was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church and was also a member of the C.P.D.E.S. (Portuguese Hall) and the Cabrillo Civic Club of Sacramento.

Louise is survived by her daughter, Natalie Williams and her husband Richard; grandchildren, Melanie Spiller and her husband Greg, and Shawn Williams; a great granddaughter, Mikayla Spiller; her daughter Marylou Soriano and her husband, Jose; granddaughter, Marisa Palacol and her husband Rey and grandson Kevin Soriano and his wife, Lisa; great grandchildren, Arion, Mariano, and Zion Palacol and Logan Joe, Wyatt, and Connor Soriano; her son Rob English and his wife Linda; granddaughter, Amy Haas and her husband Matt and grandson, Ryan English; great grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob, Rhett Haas and Allyson and Emily English. Louise also leaves her two nieces and a nephew in Missouri, many loving cousins and extended family including her dear friends Kathleen and Frits Van Dyk and their family. A very special thank you to Myrna's home Care Services for the wonderful and loving care that they provided Louise during this past year.

Friends may pay their respects at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on Tuesday April 4, from 6 pm – 8 pm.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 5 at Resurrection Catholic Church (7600 Soquel Drive) in Aptos beginning at 10 am.
