Obituary of Helen Wong

30 Year Resident of Santa Cruz
Helen Chan Wong passed away in Santa Cruz at the age of 101. Her loving family was at her bedside.
She was born in San Francisco, California, to Chan Bak Yuen and Chow Shee and grew up in Chinatown. She had 11 brothers and sisters and is the last of her siblings to pass.
Helen married Albert K. Wong in 1946, had a son and a daughter, and moved to Menlo Park, California. Al passed in 1979.
After his death, she lived briefly in the South Bay , but made a permanent move to the Santa Cruz area 30 years ago to be near her daughter's family.
She was a long-time, faithful member of First Chinese Baptist Church in San Francisco, First Baptist Church of Menlo Park, and then Felton Bible Church. She loved Jesus and her faith defined how she lived.
She also loved to travel and was just as comfortable in an RV or 10-passenger van as she was dining in formal attire on a cruise ship. She loved being outside, and particularly loved looking at the stars.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and JoAnn Wong of San Jose; her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Tim Koopmans of Santa Cruz; her beloved grandchildren, Jonathan, Jana, Jason, James and John; and her great-grandchildren, Justin, Evan, and Jordan.
The family will hold a memorial service 11:45 am, Friday, August 4, 2017, at Felton Bible Church, 5999 Graham Hill Road, Felton, CA (831.335.3418, www.FeltonBibleChurch.org). A meal will follow at the church.
The committal will be private.
