Obituary of Benjamin Millburn

Benjamin Lewis Millburn, July 21, 2017 returned to the sea as a result of injuries sustained in a truck accident on Highway 1 in Big Sur, California.

Ben arrived on this planet in Santa Cruz September 6, 1980 and chose Susan Warrens and Gene Millburn to be his parents. He was welcomed with open arms, open hearts and unconditional love.

He spent his youth living on a mountain top here in Santa Cruz, running through the woods, riding horses, building tree houses, swimming with sister Kate and the many friends that visited.

Ben's love of the Ocean started with his first dive at 6 years old in La Jolla Cove to see the bright orange Garibaldi swim through the green eel grass. He fell in love.

Ben's love of the ocean continued to grow. Be it being in the lineup at the Hook with Rick Noe at 9 years old or spending his early teen summers in Hawaii with the Kaluahkikui Family. He grew to honor and respect Mother Ocean. He found much peace and serenity through surfing, swimming, diving and just being held by her. He was at home in the water.

Ben also shared his immense love with all he came in contact with. Whether telling stories, laughing, dancing, hugging, talking, holding, listening and just being with you, you knew he was there for you and always left a bit of himself with you. A compassionate, tender, and caring soul, an exceptional human being. He was a lover of life and is missed by all who knew him.

Ben is survived by his mother Susie, stepmother Jan, sister Kate, stepbrothers Scott and Jeff, father Gene and his dog "Tank of Love." There will be a paddle out Friday August 25, 2017 at 10am at Pleasure Point with a celebration to follow beginning at 12 noon at 26th Ave. Beach.
