Obituary of Cora "Betty" Seegmiller

Cora "Betty" Elizabeth Seegmiller, passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side at the age of 88, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in Watsonville, CA. Betty, as she was known, was born on April 28, 1929, to Charles Paul Dunifer and Ora Pearl (Mitchell) Dunifer in Mattoon, Illinois. Betty was raised in various states such as Illinois, Texas and Utah, but also lived in Tennessee and New Mexico, before settling down in California. In Utah, she attended Weber High School where she started her strong friendships that continued throughout her life.

Betty held many jobs during her life, mainly in the grocery industry, including Earls Food Market, White Cliff Market, Safeway, Nob Hill, the Food Fair and JC Penney. She loved baking, gardening, sewing, and Bingo. She was a caring hospital volunteer, helping out at Laughlin Memorial Hospital in Greeneville, Tennessee and San Juan Hospital in Farmington, New Mexico.

Betty married Richard K. (Dick) Seegmiller, Sr., and they raised their four children. Later, Betty and Dick got divorced, and after Betty retired she moved to Greeneville, Tennessee to build a log cabin. Betty was a lover of all, with a big heart. She attended various churches such as Baptist, Methodist, Mormon, Christian and Presbyterian.

Betty is survived by her sons, Richard K. Seegmiller, Jr., D. Paul Seegmiller and Elaine, John Scott Seegmiller and Korey, and her daughter, Marianne and Larry Erickson. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Chuck Dunifer, Bob Dunifer and sister, Mary Maluf.

A Celebration of Life for Betty will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Valley Heights Senior Community, 925 Freedom Blvd., Watsonville, CA from 1-2:30 pm, appetizers and refreshments will be provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local hospital, medical facility or other organization of your choice.
