Obituary of Anthony Joseph Scolieri

Anthony Joseph Scolieri, Lt. Col. USAF (RET), aged 93, of Aptos, California died on February 22nd surrounded by his loving family. Tony was born in Pittsburgh, PA, was a swimmer and diver on the swim team at Langley High School and Penn State, where he received a BA in Business Administration. Later he obtained an MA in Education and Counseling from Notre Dame University. He retired from the Air Force, having served mostly as a finance officer, and then as a teacher in California. During his military career, he was also a Comptroller of the Air Force Eastern Contract Management Region, and an Associate Professor at Notre Dame University in charge of Air Force ROTC. He was an enthusiastic traveler, loved family gatherings, golf, and playing cards. He swam every day he could until he was 90 years old. Tony was a devoted husband to his English wife Alma, and loving father of Catherine, Charles, Jane Scolieri and Margaret Whalley. His five grandchildren gave him great pleasure and affection: Antonette and Brenton Dano, Jessica and Elizabeth Whalley and Nicolo Scolieri. He is survived by sisters Carmella Moore, Palma Vignale and Sunta Marnell, and brothers, Michael and Pat. His brother Frank, and sisters Mary Shepler and Louise Olson predeceased him. "Uncle Tony" is fondly remembered by many for his kindness and generosity, and the joy and laughter he shared with everyone.
