David Maley

Obituary of David Maley

Dave Maley smiled, cared, and loved, extending himself to family, friends and strangers even as he faced illness. Dave loved finding the best donut bakery, the redwood trees in Nisene Marks, and the beach in Aptos where just weeks before he passed, he watched Sanderlings chase the waves and whales breach. He truly lived every day to the fullest and will be greatly missed.

Dave was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he graduated from Xavier University and married his wife Nancy. They moved to Cedarburg, WI in 1960, where Dave ran his building materials firm, for thirty years. In 1981 the family moved to Minneapolis where Dave founded an inner-city program called Two or More, which gave low-income youth the tools to escape poverty. In 1997, Dave and Nancy moved to CA, where Dave worked in real estate for fifteen years. He had a passion for church and community and volunteered with COPA, youth programs, and prison ministry.

Dave is survived by his wife Nancy, his seven children, and their spouses, Susan and Dale Ferdinandi, Sheila Ellison and Al Wegener, Karen Gold, David and Karin Maley, Brian and Terese Maley, Brennan Maley, Kim DeVane and Jack Crawford; eighteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and Suzanne Roberts.

Dave passed away on September 23 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
