Patrick Teutschel

Obituary of Patrick Albert Teutschel

Patrick Albert Teutschel of Aptos passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning surrounded by his cherished family. A proud San Franciscan and longtime resident of Aptos, Patrick attended St. Anne Elementary, St. Ignatius High School and the University of San Francisco. Pat taught at St. Anne and St. Elizabeth schools in San Francisco, before joining California Traveler in 1977, the family business. Patrick raised his family near the Monterey Bay beaches that he has loved since he was a boy, spending summers in Capitola.

Patrick was the center of the family, and built a home and community where he raised his three children, Nicole Marie, Olivia "Livy," and Jon-Paul. He was a fiercely proud father and teacher to his children, who brought him the greatest joy of his life. A firm believer in bringing family together each night around the dinner table, Patrick raised a family that grew together, supported and loved each other. Always with a book in hand, Patrick loved zips along the beach, making friends with complete strangers in the grocery store and planning the next travel adventure, often returning to his home away from home in the sands of the Hanalei Bay.

Patrick and his beloved wife Dolores were known for hosting holidays, birthdays and Sunday night dinners where cousins of cousins and neighbors quickly became part of the family and the life that Patrick built for all of us. An avid reader, world traveler, lover of art and music, dedicated father, beloved husband, brother, uncle, friend, and regularly the amateur comedian, Patrick will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Patrick was the second son of Mr. Albert Teutschel and his beloved wife Lois. Patrick had a wonderful mentor in his grandfather, Frank Lallement. "Gramps" was a powerful influence in Pat's life and an important part of his life education.

Patrick is survived by his wife and best friend of 34 years, Dolores; his three children Nicole, Olivia and Jon-Paul; and his siblings Mike, Tim and Colleen Seward. Uncle Pat also leaves behind nieces Laura, Anne, Amber, Erin, Camilla and Elizabeth, grandnephew and nieces Scott, Sarah, Michelle and Calista, as well as many cousins who he held dear. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Friends of Santa Cruz Public Libraries, or the Santa Cruz SPCA where he found his fourth child, a Labrador retriever named Inka Marie. What a dog.

A rosary service will be held on Monday, November 6th at 7:00 p.m. at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz. A Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, November 7th at Resurrection Catholic Church in Aptos at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Michael Marini.
