Lewis Feinman

Obituary of Lewis Feinman

Lew passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 21st due to complications from Alzheimer's Dementia.

Lew was born in the Bronx, and raised in Brooklyn, New York City. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from Fordham University in June 1956 and became a practicing pharmacist. He married his sweetheart Judith (Edelson) that September. Lew served in the National Guard for a six month stint and then they moved to South Florida where he became a partner with 3 other pharmacists in several pharmacies in Coconut Grove, Hialeah and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Lew and Judy raised their 2 children, Ilene and Michael, in Coral Gables, Florida where they lived until their children were grown. Lew then sold his shares in the drug stores, and he and Judy attained their Real Estate Licenses in Florida with Coconut Grove Realty in Miami where they successfully sold real estate for several years.

The traveling bug hit them in the late 1970s and they took off for a 13 month Cortez Motor Home tour of the United States, including Alaska, Canada, and Baja, California. Returning to Miami they sold their home in Coconut Grove and bought a home near Ilene in Santa Cruz.

Lew became a realtor in California working with Darrow Talbert and then Vanguard Realtors. He and Judy bought a house in Capitola and Lew changed his profession once again and became a Real Estate Loan Agent successfully working with Commercial Pacific, San Francisco Federal, Norwest Mortgage, Pacific Republic, Planters Union and American Home Mortgage.

He was admired by clients and coworkers as his motto was that every transaction should be a "win-win". He was an amazing mentor and loyal friend.

Retiring from work Lew volunteered to help raise funds for the Santa Cruz Art League and became a VIP (volunteer in police) for the City of Capitola where he lived with his wife Judy before his residency at Aegis of Aptos.

Lew was brilliant. He had an amazing sense of humor and quick wit, an accomplished photographer, business person, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Married for over 60 years, Lew is survived by his wife, Judy, his daughter Ilene (Kenny Welcher) son Michael (Cathy Cochran) and his grandchildren, Ben (Elizabeth) Shuts, Jessica (Dwight) Clark, Rebecca (Steven) Stringfellow, Maia Feinman Welcher, Erica Feinman, and great granddaughter, Lily Rose Peterson Shuts.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

The Feinman Family wishes to extend our gratitude to the entire staff at Aegis Living and to Hospice of Santa Cruz for the gentle care that Lew received.
