Obituary of Randall H. Knox

January 28, 1946 – October 18, 2017 Resident of Santa Cruz Friends and family will gather in Santa Cruz on November 18th to celebrate the life of a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and trusted companion, Randy Knox, who unexpectedly passed away in Santa Cruz on October 18th. The life and loss of Sadie, the cherished family dog who was accompanying him that day on their daily walk, will also be honored. Born in Milford, Delaware, Randy served his country in the US Air Force and was stationed in the Philippines at Clarke AFB, and later Andrews AFB, where he met the love of his life and future bride Lynn. Following his service in the Air Force, Randy completed his degree at the University of Delaware. He and Lynn then moved to California where Randy immediately found a job in the high-tech industry. He continued his successful career in technology moving into the Security, Real Estate, and Facility's field. He was a dedicated part of teams at Novell and Adobe, among others. As a Sr. Director, he pioneered efforts in sustainable/green initiatives in the facilities he oversaw. His career in technology spanned over 40 years. He was a lover of animals, including the irreplaceable family dog and companion Sadie. She touched the lives of many as a registered therapy dog. Sadie and Lynn were active in the program for volunteer visitors with Hospice of Santa Cruz County with Randy supporting them every step of the way. Randy was a lover of travel and the outdoors with many cherished memories of family camping, motorcycle trips, and cruises. Randy was a hero to many, a very present father, grandfather, and cherished husband. A mentor, he touched so many with his innate warmth, kindness, and sense of humor. He loved watching his children's and later his grandchildren's athletic events. Walking and playing with Sadie was a daily joy. He was also an avid golfer and treasured the many friends that shared his passion. He could typically be found with a smile on his face planning his next adventure. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lynn; his mother, Betty Jane; his sons and daughters-in-law, Randy IV, Kate, and their son Tyler; Eric and Summer and their children, Taylor and Isabella; his sister and brother-in-law Sandy and Bill Drugash; and brother and sister-in-law Don and Denise Knox, along with many much-loved nieces, nephews and extended family. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 18th, at the Inn at Pasatiempo, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Any kind acts of charity can be made in his memory to Hospice of Santa Cruz County/ Volunteer Department, 940 Disc Dr., Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
