Obituary of Janiece Sybille Welty

Janiece Pinkard Welty of Santa Cruz, Ca passed into her eternal life on Wednesday June 2, 2010 from a lengthy illness. There will be a Celebration of her Life with family and friends on June 13th at Twin Lakes Church at 2701 Cabrillo College Dr. at 2:00 p.m. Janiece was born to Cassie Corene Collins and Robert Lafayette Pinkard on July 14th, 1940 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She graduated from Kosciusko High in 1958 and later that year with her family, moved from Mississippi to Scotts Valley Ca. Janiece was of the first to enroll at Cabrillo College which at the time was being held at the Watsonville High School library. Janiece met her husband to be James Norton Welty while attending Cabrillo College. For the past 40 years, Janiece was a homemaker, a part-time interior decorator and a clothing designer. She was also very active throughout her life, in the 1970's as a Santa Cruz little league baseball coach, along with coaching girl's basketball and softball teams at Mission Hill Junior High School. Coaching and teaching sports was her passion! Janiece also enjoyed watching most all sporting events and was a competitive, talented player in basketball, softball and tennis! Janiece was also an avid gardener, her homes always displayed beautiful plants and gardens and her cooking could bring together family and friends, she had such style and grace in all she did! She is preceded in death by her father Robert Pinkard and her brother R.L. Pinkard. Janiece is survived by her two sons, Ted Rollin Welty of Santa Cruz, Ca. and Curtis Shag Welty (Julie) of Chico, Ca. Two grandchildren Tyler Nathaniel and Cassie Shae Welty, mother Cassie Corene two brothers Robert Earl and Shane Jefferey Pinkard and two sisters Cynthia Ann and Brenda Sue. Janiece will be dearly missed. A Celebration of her Life will be held June 13th, 2010 at Twin Lakes Church at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
