Obituary of Holland Garcia

Holland Gene Garcia, 70, died peacefully at home on Monday, December 18th 2017 after a brief illness. He leaves his loving wife, partner, and best friend, Eileen Maceri; his stepson, Michael Maceri; stepdaughters Linda Perkel and Jeanie Darling; several step grandchildren; his brother, Baxter Garcia and his wife, Claire; and niece Liz Garcia. He is preceded in death by his mother, Beth Garcia; father, John Garcia; and his faithful dog, Chipper. Holland was born on June 14, 1947 in Oakland, California. In his childhood he moved with his family to Carmel where he became a life-long resident. From an early age Holland was drawn to the arts. His natural ability, imagination, and passion for music guided him his entire life. As a young man he graduated from the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music and began composing and teaching music. He taught piano for many years at the Robert Louis Stevenson School in Pebble Beach. Besides his talent as a musician Holland was also an accomplished author writing under the name Gene Andrade, and an artist skilled in many mediums. He was a generous individual who loved being in nature and was passionate about educating his students about the beauty of music. His students remember him as a kind and patient teacher who encouraged them to pursue their goals in music appreciation. He will be remembered as a loving and wise soul—loved deeply by Eileen, his heart companion of 30 years, her family, and his many friends. A deeply spiritual man, he remained young at heart throughout his entire life. His was a life well loved and well lived. "What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments but what is woven into the lives of others." ~Pericles. A celebration of Holland's life will be held at a later date.
