Obituary of Richard Thomas DeBord

Richard Thomas DeBord passed away Saturday, February 3rd at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center at the age of 61. 
Born June 5th, 1956 to parents Thomas Albert DeBord and Beverly Rose Loomis in Fresno, California, Richard went on to study at California Statue University, Fresno earning a bachelors in art with an emphasis in jewelry and metal smithing. 
Richard moved to Santa Cruz in the late 1970s where he eventually became a successful businessman and served his community for over 30 years. 
After meeting at a running club in the early 2000s, Richard married his late wife Karen in 2003 and they shared 12 wonderful years together as he helped raise her children while also sharing her love for college football, the Giants and the Santa Cruz Warriors. 
On his own Richard was fond of live music, antique trains and rare coins. When joint pain forced him to hang up his running shoes and leave his tennis racket behind he became impassioned with improving his golf game and took up his wife's love for restoring Victorian architecture. 
Richard was liked and well respected by those who knew him and his absence will be sorely felt in his community by his business associates, his friends, and of course, his family.
Richard was preceded by his wife Karen "Normie" Petersen, his parents, his older brother Greg, and is survived by his sister Kathleen DeBord Lindberg, his stepchildren Alex and Karalynn Dunton, and his girlfriend Marke Schulz. 
The memorial services will be held at Pacific Garden Chapel Saturday, February 24th at 2 pm.
