Obituary of Mary Stagnaro

Mary Stagnaro passed away at Dominican Hospital on July 23, 2018. She was 81. Mary was born in Santa Cruz, one of five children of Antonio and Emma Ghio.  Mary was raised in Santa Cruz and was a lifelong resident of Santa Cruz.  She attended Bay View Elementary, Mission Hill Junior High and was a graduate of Santa Cruz High School.

Mary was co-owner of Baikie & Alcantara a career that spanned 45 years. She began there as a bookkeeper, later becoming a stock broker and co-owner. She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church where she served on the finance council and also as a Eucharistic minister. She was active in numerous organizations including Omega Nu of which she was a member for 46 years. She was also a member of the Italian Catholic Federation and the Daisy. She served on the board of Dominican Hospital Foundation, Long Marine Lab, St. Francis High School and was on the Scholarship Committee for Santa Cruz High School. She was also a Girl Scout Troop Leader for her two daughters.

Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jack Stagnaro; two daughters, Kathy Stagnaro and Patty Locatelli and her husband, Albert; grandchildren, Jacqueline Locatelli and Ryan Locatelli; brother, John Ghio and his wife, Chris and sister in law, Jeanne Barilati. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Emma Ghio; her brothers, Tommy Ghio and Terry Ghio and her sister, Teresa Parsons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church, 126 High St., Santa Cruz, CA on Tuesday July 31 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery. To express your condolences or share a remembrance with Mary’s family please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com.
