   Dale Roger Gunwall

December 31, 1944 – August 24, 2018

Services will be held on Saturday in Salinas for Dale Gunwall who passed away peacefully at his Santa Cruz home following a brief battle with cancer. Born in Tucson, Arizona, he was 73 years old. Dale was a talented electrician with a career that spanned over 45 years.  He was a member of IBEW Local # 234, and leaves many dear friends and colleagues who will miss his knowledge and expertise.  While working a job at Wrigley's in Santa Cruz, he met his future wife Mary, and the couple have been together here for the past 30 years.

Dale was a motorcycle aficionado, and enjoyed restoring and riding vintage Triumph bikes. Music was a big part of his life, with many fond memories continuing to be shared of the family gatherings at Mary’s daughter’s house in Prundale, where horses, chickens, children, and the sound of country music filled the air.

Dale is survived by his wife of 18 years, Mary Gunwall of Santa Cruz, his two sons and- daughters- in law, Bryan and Stacey Gunwall of Salinas; Greg and Mary Gunwall of Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Jerry Freeman of Salinas, and Allison and Eric Porter of US Naval Base, Guam. He also leaves Mary’s children and their families; Connie and Craig Remick of Aromas, Brian and Kristen Johnson of Oregon; Danny Johnson of Montana, along with 15 beloved grandchildren, one great grandchild, and beloved siblings and extended family residing in North Dakota.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Dale’s life, and wish him peace and safe travel on his new life journey this Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Gino’s Restaurant 1410 S Main St, Salinas, CA 93901, from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
