Obituary of Christopher Neel Gross

Beloved son and brother, Christopher Neel Gross, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on September 4, 2018 after a 2+ year battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born on August 25, 1961 to Eugene and Mary Etta Gross in Stockton, Ca. The family moved to Santa Cruz in 1966 where he attended Holy Cross Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Marello Preparatory High School in 1979.

Chris was a Butcher by trade and was considered by many as a master at his craft. For many years he operated Soquel Meats alongside his parents. He enjoyed the love of his family and friends, barbequing at parties, making his famous beef jerky, watching the 49ers, the Peppermill Casino and Westlake Pond.  He will be truly missed by us all.

Chris is survived by his father, Eugene Gross; his sister Mary Jean and brother in law James Berchem, brother Randall Gross, brother Russell and sister-in-law Jill Gross, sister Ann and brother-in-law Dave Scott, his nephews Chris, Jon, Justin, Trent and Jack, and his niece Amber. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Etta Gross and wife Christina.

Family and friends may pay their respects at a visitation to be held on at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Garden Chapel on Tuesday Sept. 11 from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral services will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on Wednesday Sept. 12 beginning at 11 am.  A private committal will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. A very special thank you to his caregivers, especially Claudia, Rocio and Jeerawan for their devotion to Chris and our family. Any donations in his name can be made to Holy Cross School.
