Lynford Bushman

Obituary of Lynford B. Bushman

Lynford B Bushman passed away August 17, 2018 in Santa Cruz, California. Lyn was born in Illinois on December 30, 1920. He grew up in the small town of Milledegeville one of nine children born to Nelson

S. and Clara Bushman. He was the last surviving sibling.

Sept. of 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He was sent to the Burma Campaign and was a tail gunner on a B25. He was shot down twice. They crashed in the jungle where he struggled for days to get out with a leg wound. He spent months in a hospital in Florida and received a Purple Heart.

He returned to Illinois where he met Miloma Grant who was a U.S. Cadet Nurse serving in Aurora, Illinois then sent to Micheal Reese Hospital in Chicago. They married in March of 1946. They sharecropped on a farm for 5 years then moved to California in 1955 with their two boys and daughter.

He worked as a laborer in construction until he retired. His work ethics were unequaled and many younger than him had trouble keeping up.

Many happy times were enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends. Three houseboat summers were among the most memorable. Lyn knew no strangers. He loved to talk to people and with his Retired Vet hat always had people to converse with.

In 1985 Lyn and Miloma sold everything to full time RV. They traveled all over the US stopping wherever they saw something or could fish. Many summers were spent in Yellowstone and then winters in Santa Margarita or Santa Cruz, Calif.

Lyn was predeceased in death by his wife, Miloma and daughter Myna. He is survived by son Bruce (Kathy), granddaughter Amy Dement (James), great grand kids Kyle and Kara; grandson Jeremy Bushman(Martea), great grand kids Jersey and Parker; son Loren (Leslie); son-in-law Stan Poplin; grandson Rawley Bushman (April), great grand kids Ian, Tad, and Ivy.

Lyn would have been 98 in December. He will be greatly missed but has left us with so many wonderful memories that it will be a long time before we can be sad. Many new memories are being created with his legacy of camping and fishing.
