Obituary of J Ascencion Saucedo

J Ascencion Saucedo passed away on November 14, 2018.  His wife Joan, his family and many loved ones were by his side.  Ascencion was born in Leon, Mexico on August 15, 1957 to Augustina and Vincent Saucedo.  His family including 6 siblings immigrated to the U.S. three years later.

J Ascencion grew up in Madera California and at a young age knew he was bound for college and for a future in education.  He attended San Jose State University for his Bachelors Degree and then a Masters Degree in school psychology.  He later practiced school psychology in Southern and Northern California where he was involved in bilingual education.  His work took him to Santa Cruz County where he met his first wife Laura and became the father of Mikaela.

Ascencion was driven by his desire to support students with special needs and especially those who were English Language Learners.  He loved helping other immigrant families with children in the schools.  He taught for two years at San Diego State University fulfilling a dream to teach graduate students in School Psychology.

Ascencion had an engaging personality with a sharp wit, and loved being around people.   After retiring from School Psychology he worked outside of education meeting many people and making many friends along the way.  Most recently he worked for the Santa Cruz Warriors and became an avid Warriors fan.  He loved being engaged with life and took advantage of the many opportunities that he was afforded.  He was always grateful for the opportunities life offered him.

He is survived by his daughter Mikaela of Portland Oregon who he was exceedingly proud of, wife Joan of ten years, and six siblings Nestor, Heriberto, Isaac, Maria, Aristeo and Olga, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was well loved and will be missed.

His family would like to thank the ICU nurses at Dominican Hospital who took care of him in his final days and were a constant source of support for all of those who were there.
