Obituary of Bernadette Yvonne Snyder

 

September 1, 1934 – February 10, 2019

Santa Cruz, California

 

A Mass of Christian Burial was be celebrated for Bernadette Yvonne Couprie Snyder, who passed away at her Santa Cruz home this past Sunday.

Born near La Rochelle, France, she was 84 years old.  Bernadette moved to the United States in 1963.

 

She met and married John Michael Snyder who was stationed in the Chinon Region of France with the US Army in 1961.  When John left the Army, Bernadette and John move to Oregon in 1963, where her John completed his college studies.  They then moved to California, where they lived for 30 years before retiring to Port Townsend, WA in 1995. 

 

Bernadette was as an accomplished artist, and her beautiful paintings graced her home, and her family and friends home’s as she gifted many of her works.   She was very proud of her French heritage, her green thumb, and her talents at cooking.

 

The couple moved to Santa Cruz 5 years ago to be near their son and his family. John preceded Bernadette in death in November of 2017.

 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Michele Snyder of Scotts Valley; her two sisters Pierrette Paysant and Nanette Drouillard, residing in France;

And her beloved grandchildren Janine, Alicia, Kaitlyn, and Teresa Snyder.

 

The Mass was celebrated on Saturday February 23, 2019 at San Agustin Catholic Church.  Bernadette’s ashes will be scattered at sea in the Spring, in the same bay where her beloved husband was scattered. This committal will be private.  Any kind acts of charity can be made in lieu of flowers to the St. Francis Catholic Kitchen (205 Mora Ave Santa Cruz, CA.  95060).
