Bob and Paula were the first people to make Santa Cruz feel like home to me. I have often thought about how God used Bob and Paula to really re-ignite my own walk with Jesus. Such a wonderful example of faithfulness, generosity, and sincerity! I will never forget coming over to their house and looking at all of the giants memorabilia and talking baseball with them both. It was the first time I really spent time with Bob and there was never a time after that, when I wasn’t welcomed with a joyful sincerity from him! I am thankful to have known him and will always think of Bob and Paula as dear people God has placed in my life.

Bob will forever be "Mr. Simmons" to me, a definite presence in my high school years. I've reflected on him and the impact of being part of a band culture many times in adult life. Treasured! Love and prayers to you, Craig and Stephanie, and all the family.

To my loving family,
When I think of pop there are so many clear thoughts that come to mind. His love for his Lord first with thoughtful daily devotion in the word, his love for his family time and time again. His caring for his students which pop demonstrated in and out of school. Pop loved to put other's before himself in so many ways, with a smile, a meal, a conversation, a drive to the airport, you name it pop did it. Pop cared for people and he loved to show it in so many ways. I have such fond memories of vacations, baseball games, playing music, sitting in a boat and fishing for hours, talking walks, reading, and so many other passions. Pop was a quiet man but a deep thinker. Pop so loved his yard, and for 50 years he worked our property with his 2 hands and planted so many variety of plants that our yard was full of color. Pop would love to come out in the spring and see what would come up. These are but a few items that would describe my father as a man with simple means, but a man that loved his Lord, family, life, and gave to others.. I know when he arrived in heaven he heard.. " Well done my faithful Servant"... I will always love you pop"...

1974 was the year that Jerry and I were introduced to Bob and Paula Simmons and their boys. We became instant friends as Bob and Paula assisted us by their love, support and leadership in the College Group at Twin Lakes Church. We spent hours with Bob and Paula praying, planning and yes, laughing even during a church service or two at obviously hilarious situations. Bob kept a steady rhythm on the drums for The Salt Company as we travelled and sang for various events and youth functions in the 70's as he balanced the generation gap in a church culture that wasn't always in tune with our tunes. Bob had an extraordinary ability to engage every age with the truth of the Gospel of Christ. His love for Jesus and His scriptures was always an inspiration to all of us. When our time was done in Santa Cruz, Bob was the one who drove us to the airport to our interview weekend in Vancouver, B.C. His support and undying loyalty to us was demonstrated and proved over and over by his brilliant smile and ready laugh. His clear commitment to Jesus Christ remains an example to us to be image bearers of the living God for the rest of our lives. We loved Bob and now continue to love Paula, Mark and Craig Simmons. May the Lord comfort you and give you peace. Jerry and Sue Rueb

I was never a high school student of Bob Simmons, but I was involved in the college group at Twin Lakes Church when Bob and his wife, Paula, were sponsors of that group. Bob was always a huge encouragement to me especially when it came to music. I played in the TLC orchestra back in those days, in the early 70's, right next to Bob. He taught me things during that time that I will never forget. Years later when I was directing orchestra at TLC in the 90's Bob was always there to support me wherever needed playing percussion, drums, or just being a "cheerleader". Three or four years ago Bob and I had our last musical "gig" together - Bob on drums, me on bass and another friend on piano. I will always cherish that day. But, very recently we had a different kind of "gig" together that far outweighs them all. Bob, Paula and I had communion together in their home. We were brought back to the reason we have this amazing connection - and that is the love of Christ demonstrated on the cross. Our love for each other is grounded in God's love for us. I so look forward to seeing Bob again in heaven when we will all have the ULTIMATE GIG, praising Christ in all His glory! God bless you Simmons family!

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Mr. Simmons, my band director and friend at Harbor High from 1978 to 1982. We had a lot of fun and laughs together, and Bob was the the person who found Bill Trimble's phone number for me when I was looking for a saxophone instructor my freshman year. Needless to say that led to a life long love affair with the saxophone!
Rest in Peace. Love, peace and music to you all....

10 years ago I was welcomed into the Simmons family. Bob (Pop) was a very loving, supportive, encouraging and Godly man. He will always have a special spot in my heart. He is greatly missed, but I have peace knowing I will see him in again in Glory. I love you Pop and will never forget you. Much love, Stephanie (one of your girls)

Dear Paula,
My heart is hurting for you and your family with Bob's passing. What a wonderful man, husband and father. I always appreciated his smile and his conversation. His love for the Lord and his love for music shined through. I know it must be so hard to have him gone now from this earth. But, I know he is rejoicing in his heavenly body free from pain and illness and I can only assume that he is already playing music and bringing joy to others through his talents. While it hurts to not have him here with you now, I hope you can take comfort in knowing that you will be reunited some day.
Much love,
Tracy Granlund
