Obituary of Marlene M. Freitas

Marlene M. Freitas passed away on February 10, 2020 at her home in Aptos. She was 73. Marlene was born May 15, 1946 in San Juan Bautista, CA, the daughter of John and Lena Freitas. She grew up in Gilroy where she attended, St Mary’s Elementary, Gilroy High School and Notre Dame High School in Salinas. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University.

Marlene worked as a teacher for Berryessa Union School District from which she retired after twenty five years. Marlene resided in Mountain View, Saratoga and later moved to Aptos where she has lived since 2007. 

She was a member of Twin Lakes Church of Aptos, St Mary’s Catholic Church of Gilroy and the Gilroy Historical Society. She was an artist, enjoyed Bible study and loved to travel. She studied Genealogy and wrote two books on family history. She also supported women’s organizations.

Marlene was preceded in death by her Mother, father and brother, Eddie. She leaves a loving extended family and many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at Twin Lakes Church, 2701 Cabrillo College Dr, Aptos, CA on Monday April 6, 2020 at 11:30 am. A private cremation was held and her ashes will be scattered at sea.

In lieu of flowers contributions are preferred to Twin Lakes Church of Aptos or St. Jude’s Hospital or St Mary’s School in Gilroy.
