Fondly remembering Gerry today. We worked closely together at McHenry Library for many years and continued a friendship after her retirement. She was practical, efficient, fun. She took care of business but also thoroughly enjoyed a good work party. I learned a lot from Gerry, and enjoyed her giggle as someone else pointed out. We shared many a cat story as she was a loving and kind person. I am also reminded of her love of Pebble Beach golf tournaments. As a newcomer at work I joined Gerry and her close co-workers one-time at their weekly 4 some early morning breakfast on Pacific Garden Mall but couldn't match their energy at that hour. They were all gracious folks. I enjoyed seeing their bond.

I am truly blessed to have had Gerry's friendship over the past 55 years. She was so special to our family, that we came to think of her "as family". Intelligent, interesting, and always had a point of view (so much that she often was not interested in others. At times I would stop mid sentence, as I knew she wasn't listening..and I would just laugh to myself). I always admired her determination to be self sufficient...and not to rely on anyone. A little difficult for her these past few years, but she still was remarkably independent up to the end. I am so glad we were able to celebrate her 90th birthday. She he was so proud of that milestone! When she was 89, she would often tell me, that when talking to people about a problem...she would say "well, I am almost 90 (and would giggle, as if she could finally use that as an excuse).
Gerry loved her friends, neighbors, university co-workers, as well as her condominium and the many cats she had over the years. I already miss her terribly, but am comforted that she is now at peace, and does not have to worry anymore about having to be "dependent" any longer.

Gerry was the aunt of my late husband, Jon Scott. Gerry and I became good friends through our visits to see her in Santa Cruz and her visits to Maine while we lived there . We had great fun exploring New Hampshire and southern Maine. We continued our visits by phone over the years and shared our love of reading by talking about the books we were reading. Gerry was always upbeat and positive and had interesting things to talk about. She will be greatly missed by both my son Michael and me.

Working with Gerry for many years, I came to appreciate and enjoy her perspective, her self-deprecating sense of humor, her light touch with things that others took way too seriously. She taught me how to enjoy our profession and do it well while keeping your personality and uniqueness intact. I will miss our annual post-Christmas catch-up lunches, and hearing about C-SPAN watching and cat stories and librarian-sightings. I will miss you, Gerry.

Gerry was such a librarian. She always had a plan, a back up plan, and a back up plan for her back up plan. She was articulate, intelligent, ingenious, and ornery with a wicked sense of humor. She kicked me out of her condo several times for good reason, and on occasion simply because she was watching golf. I banged on her back door way more than I should have because we liked to regale each other with tales, gossip, and chocolate. She was my buddy, my comrade-in-arms, my sharer of secrets, font of knowledge for condo history. She had records, and more records. She had answers.
I love you, Gerry. I miss you. I'm mad at myself for not understanding you weren't going to be with us forever. And I know you don't want me to share these photos because there were never any photos you liked of yourself, but people want to see them now because they can't see you.
I hope heaven is stocked up on Trader Joe's animal crackers and ice cream.

Gerry couldn't have been more fortunate than to have a true friend like Carol Maleti. Carol, there is a special place in heaven for you. xox V.
