We are so sad that we have lost an amazing friend...truly an amazing, unique, friendly, kind, smart, entertaining, and energetic human being. Phil’s smile, laugh and his love of people would light up a room!
We became fast friends with the Reiker’s, 2 years ago, on the first day of our cruise to Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. We spent all day, every day together. We ate all our meals, toured ports of call, and attended nightly shows with Phil, Sherry and our so called “adopted” kids, Brianna & Jordon.
The next year we traveled to California and stayed several days with them at their beautiful home, with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, in La Selva Beach. They played tour guide and took us to see the local sights. Phil’s favorite (our’s too!) was a wonderful music festival in Santa Cruz. From there we had an opportunity to walk with the Reiker’s among the Giant Sequoia’s.
We are so very sad about the loss of such a special friend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Phil & Sherry’s families.

I am still at a loss to accept how such a beautiful person could leave us at such an early age, so soon, so long before his time. Phil was a vibrant youthful man who loved life and loved his wonderful family. He was so proud of his Jetmulch business that he created and ran for many years. There was never a time that I saw Phil mad or in a bad mood and I admired that he always saw the good in everyone and in the world around him.
I met Phil when we were both 26 after an alternative energy presentation and i had the pleasure of knowing him over the next 38 years or so and hanging out with him thru the many phases of our lives. We did not see each other that often but stayed in touch over the many years and we would go out sometimes and look at houses and one day I remember him all excited and telling me about his new girlfriend, he told me that I might know her. It's Sherry from the Water department. I said yeah, way to go Phil, she's great! They were a good match and along with Sally and Erik such a great family for over 30 years.
Phil and I were born 1 month apart in the summer of 1956 and we always looked forward to Phil and and Sherry's annual birthday party at his house in La Selva Beach to celebrate the occasion for his 100 closest friends and also we would all look forward to going to the annual Banff Film Festival at the Rio Theatre which was a perfect venue for all of us to get our yearly dose of armchair adventures. Phil was such a thoughtful guy that he would always insist on paying for our tickets! IT was a tradition for 15 years or so. I will always treasure those precious times together and I wonder what it will be like without Phil.
My deepest sympathies to you, Sherry and Sally and Erik and all of Phil's many many friends that all were like family. Soon, I hope that the sadness that you feel be replaced by joyful memories of all of the great times together.
Sherry, many thanks for the wonderful photos and the write-up in the Sentinel, for you captured Phil's heart and spirit and warmth and love of life so beautifully. Phil, you will never be forgotten With deep love Ken Carlson

Phil was my best friend. We were roommates in the dorm at Corbett Hall at CSU and made numerous memories while there. After living in the dorm, we were roommates several times in student houses but if truth be told, I think Phil preferred the company of women :). We spent 2 weeks hiking in the west side of Canyonlands Nat Park in 1976 where we saw no people for the entire time. After graduating, Phil moved to Santa Cruz and I moved to Wyoming. I decided to visit Phil in California and wound up serendipitously finding a job. Generously, Phil invited me to move in with him in Seacliff for a few months before I found my own place. In the early 80s, I moved to the Turks and Caicos and Phil visited me after which we traveled together around the Dominican Republic. I then moved to Florida and sadly our visits became less frequent. Yet, we still managed to get together. I was honored and humbled to be Phil and Sherry's best man at their wedding. I was able to visit a few times both alone and with my wife and Phil and Sherry visited us in Florida. Phil drove down to Death Valley to visit me while I was cycling across the U.S., still a very fond memory.
Phil and I spoke frequently. He was unquestionably the most honorable and moral person I have known (along with my wife). I could always count on Phil to give me sage advice on any issue. I will miss our laughs together. I am constantly thinking I need to call Phil to talk to him about something but then reality hits. I will miss you forever.

Phil was a great client and friend. I helped him purchase a property in Sunol and Tracy for his business, and Phil was always asking the right questions and wanting to be helpful and collaborative in all that we did together. He made friends instantly, and he always saw the better side of any individual. He wouldn't hesitate to ask for help, or offer his help, and he always preferred to meet in person instead of over the phone or emails. Phil was detailed and accountable, and a great person to work with and tell stories with. The posted picture of Phil says it all--a very positive, upbeat, active guy. The world lost a great man who would have continued to be a light in this world. I was very saddened to see this happen to my friend Phil, and my prayers for peace and comfort go out to his family.

Phil and Sherry each had such a wonderful laugh. They came to our Christmas Party for years, bringing their special Green Salad. During the crazy gift exchange, their infectious laughter would make the work of the party disappear. Hanging on my office wall is a picture of one of our sod jobs that Phil took, framed and delivered during his days at Greenfields Turf. My heart aches for Sherry and their family, a wonderful person has left us.

To Sherry, Eric and Sally, I am so sad to hear of Phil's passing and my heart goes out to all of you. I love the photo you chose for his remembrance. Bright eyes, big smile--so Phil! Every memory I have of him is happy and delightful. Phil will be missed by all who knew him and what a wonderful legacy that is. [BTW Phil, I chose a green candle for you and I'm sure its scent is "fresh cut grass"!] All my love, Susan Kocher
