Obituary of James Michael Lyster

 

November 18, 1954 – October 16, 2020

Native of Santa Cruz

 

A private committal will be held in Oregon, for Santa Cruz native James Lyster who passed away at his family home in Santa Cruz following a lengthy illness.  He was 65 years old. Jim attended Santa Cruz High School and Cabrillo College. Jim later served his country in the US Navy and stationed in San Diego.  His last assignment was aboard the USS Vancouver, which was deployed during the Vietnam War.

 

His family and friends will forever remember him as a talented athlete, and in later years, a devoted son, brother and friend.

 

His father James D. Lyster preceded him in death in 2008.

 

Jim is survived by his mother, Patricia Lyster of Santa Cruz, his brother and sister-in-law Dale and Linda Lyster of Corvallis, Oregon, and his brother Gary Lyster of Santa Cruz.  Jim also leaves his nephews Matt Lyster, Ian Lyster, Thad Lyster, and great nephews Jay Lyster, Brett Lyster, Tyson Lyster and Blake Lyster along with many loving cousins and extended family throughout Oregon and Washington.

 

He will be laid to rest with military honors at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland Oregon, with his late father who was himself a U.S. Navy Veteran.
