Obituary of Bear Hjorth

                          February 24, 1944- February 7, 2021

A private committal is planned for long time Ben Lomond and Scotts Valley resident, Bear Hjorth who passed away at Dominican Hospital just a few weeks before celebrating his 77th birthday.

Born in San Francisco, Bear, as all affectionately knew him, attended high school in Santa Clara, and earned his associate’s degree from San Jose City College. Bear then served his country in the US Navy; completing three tours of duty in Viet Nam.

He was very talented at mechanical drawing, and returned from the service working as a draftsman for a computer circuit board company before computer technology was in use. Bear learned to design circuit boards using computers while working for Plantronics, and later started his own circuit board design company- “CAD Connection”.

Bear loved sports and in his high school days swam with the Santa Clara Swim Team, and excelled on his high school golf team.  He was an avid fan of all Stanford University Teams; especially football, women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball.  He was a longtime member of the Scotts Valley Lions Club, and will fondly be remembered as a good friend and dedicated neighbor.

Bear is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Terry Hjorth, his daughter, Doreen Mourgues and his grandson, Simon Mourgues.  He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Michel Mourgues in 1999.

An act of charity in Bear’s memory can be made to Valley Churches United.
