Obituary of Maria S. Ramos

Services were held for Maria S. Ramos who passed away suddenly on February 10, 2021 at Dominican Hospital at the age of 92. Born in Agualeguas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on August 31, 1928 one of eight very close children born to Castulo Salinas and Maria de la luz Garza Salinas.

Maria was raised and educated in Agualeguas where as a young woman, she taught elementary school. There she met Jose Ramos whom she married in 1954 and moved to the United States. They were the ultimate example of love and partnership sharing 59 years together. They renewed their vows having large marriage Celebrations for their 25th, 45th, and 50th anniversaries. Maria worked for many years for the Pacific Coast Producers cannery in Santa Cruz, until they closed down, and she retired at age 55.

Maria was unmistakably the matriarch of her family. She was a strong loving and devoted wife and mother and an adoring grandmother. Maria was always happiest surrounded by her family and friends, sharing stories, laughter and meals together. She was a strong example to her children and grandchildren of the importance of family, faith, culture, working hard, and showing compassion and generosity towards others. She enjoyed buying gifts for family, cooking, going to casinos, and traveling to her home in Mexico to visit family.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Capitola. She was known to pray the Rosary every day in Spanish.

Maria is survived by her five children, Jose S. Ramos, Jr., Andres O. Ramos, Margarita Martinelli, Enrique Ramos and Elvia Calderon. She also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren, Erika Martinelli, Nikolas Martinelli, Lukas Martinelli and Travis Ramos. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose M. Ramos and her grandson, Gavin Ramos.

She was laid to rest with her beloved husband Jose at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery on February 18, 2021.
