Obituary of Doreen A.E. Evans

DOREEN EVANS A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday in Santa Cruz for Doreen Evans who passed away at her Santa Cruz home on February 10, 2011. Born in South Africa, she was 78 years old. She moved to the Santa Cruz area 51 years ago with her husband of 54 years, Graham. They were both experienced world travelers, visiting 6 continents on self guided itineraries. Their primary modes of transportation in seeing these exotic lands included both cars and motorcycles. Doreen was a talented ball room dancer, and many of her travels on motorcycle included a ball room gown neatly packed for the journey. She enjoyed gardening at her home and grew beautiful flowers and vegetables for her friends and neighbors. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and sang in the church choir Doreen was an avid lawn bowler and a member of the Santa Cruz Lawn bowls club. She will be missed by many friends in both her church community and the lawn bowling club. She is survived by her husband, Graham Evans of Santa Cruz, and numerous foster children, including Rina Vallet of la Selva Beach. The mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church (126 High St.) in Santa Cruz on Thursday, February 17, 2011 beginning at 11 a.m. A recitation of the rosary will begin at the church at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Committal services will be private. Remembrances in her name may be made to holy Cross Catholic Church.
