Obituary of Glenn Rae Hathaway

Glenn Rae Hathaway Glenn Rae Hathaway, age 72, passed away March 8th at his home in Brookdale, California. He leaves behind Joyce, his wife of thirty-three years. Glenn is also survived by daughters Cheryl Pohlman and son-in-law Matt of Clarkston, Michigan; Donna Hazlewood and son-in-law Jim of Waco, Texas; and granddaughters Kaleigh and Mackenzie Pohlman; by nieces Jan Kaye, Margaret Ferguson, Mary Louise Dalton and Cathy Cook; nephews Robert and Arthur Simpson; and many Hathaway cousins, all of Ontario, Canada; by mother-in-law Martha Zebelian; sister-in-law Dolores Zebelian; Beverly Doan and husband Dennis; Lanora Hartway and husband Richard; and brother-in-law Lewis and wife Rhosan Zebelian. Glenn was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Simpson. Throughout his life, Glenn's adaptability, patience and common sense helped him to successfully work in several different jobs. After serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Glenn joined his father Emery in the family business, learning upholstery and canvas work; a talented organist, he entertained in restaurants and clubs in Port Huron. In California, Glenn worked for a contractor and developer - a job which afforded him the opportunity to spend some time in China; for a forestry and golf course consultant; for the City of Capitola in the finance department. His charm, humor and outgoing nature put others at ease and made him many lasting friends in each of these situations. Glenn's extended Canadian families meant a great deal to him, especially his Hathaway uncles, who took care of Glenn during difficult times in his youth. Later, Jean Simpson and her family came into Glenn's life to give him the love of a sibling he had always yearned for. Glenn touched the lives of many people, especially in his sobriety, by sharing his experiences and spirituality with those in fellowship with him. In fellowship, he developed lasting friendships for which he was very grateful. "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Remembrances of Glenn may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, the Salvation Army, or a charity of choice.
