Obituary of Padraic "Pat" Carey

On July 9, 2021, we said “until we see you again” to our husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend Padraic (Pat) Carey. Pat was born in Newburgh, NY on July 11, 1955. In 1962 he moved with his family to Santa Cruz, Ca. Pat was a kind soul and always enjoyed a good joke. As a young boy he enjoyed fishing off the Santa Cruz wharf and going to the beach with his family and friends. Pat was an avid reader and had a curiosity of collecting knowledge in many different areas of interest. He attended Cabrillo College and attended a vocational school for HVAC. He worked for many years for the County of Santa Cruz in the General Services Department. Upon retirement Pat and his wife moved to Vancouver, Washington. He and his wife enjoyed lunches on the Colombia River, and travel in and out the US. Pat passed on holding the loving hand of his daughter Colleen and his loving wife Lucena at his side. He is survived by his wife Lucena, daughter Colleen, six siblings, Michael Carey (Nancy), Christopher Carey (Joan), Cathleen Carey, Cormac Carey, Siobhan Carey, Conor Carey (Rebecca) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer, mother Jeanne W Carey father William J Carey, sister Maureen Carey, and nephew McCormac Carey. Thanks to the team of Hospice of Oregon, specially to friends Marynella and Vergie and all that comforted Pat in his passage.“Go mbeidh na cuimhní timpeall ort” (Gaelic “Let the memories surround you”).A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 2pm-5pm with a Funeral Service beginning at 5pm at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2pm at Oakwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider performing an act of charity that would benefit the life of a child, particularly one that is in need.
