Obituary of Virgil Francis Kannall

Resident of Scotts Valley Virgil Francis Kannall passed from this life into a new life in Heaven on February 10, 2018, and is now at peace. He was born to Helen and Dominic Kannall on Sept. 24, 1925 in Beckemeyer, IL. After graduating from high school he served 3 years in the U.S. Army Signal Corp, 1½ years in India, the CBI Theater. Upon returning he went to the Univ. of IL and graduated in 1950. There he met Donna Reynolds from Polo, IL. and they married Aug. 31, 1949, celebrating their 68th anniversary in 2017. Their union was blessed with 5 loving children, Stephen (Cheryl), Gregory (Linda), Jane Koopman (Jeff), John (Penny) and Julia. They have 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. They moved to CA from IL in 2002. Virgil's career included engineering consulting, design of boilers for power plants, heating and air conditioning design and finally completing 32 years with the Pillsbury Company as Plant Engineer in Buffalo, NY and Springfield, IL. During that time he completed an MBA degree. Virgil and Donna enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and numerous visits to 6 of the 7 continents as well as cruises. Virgil was active in earlier years in the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce in Springfield and at the Church of the Little Flower where he also served on their school board. In CA he was an active member of San Agustin Church, the SIRS, on the board of Spring Lakes Park, and volunteered at the Catholic Soup Kitchen in Santa Cruz. Services will be on Friday, Feb. 16th with visitation at 6:30 PM and funeral Mass Sat. the 17th at 11:00 AM, both at San Agustin Church, 257 Glenwood Dr., Scotts Valley. A reception will follow at Spring Lakes Park clubhouse 225 Mt. Hermon Rd., Scotts Valley at approximately 1 P.M. Gifts may be donated to Operation Smile or Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
