Obituary of Jane Marie Greene

Jane Marie Greene Resident of Aptos, California June 6, 1923 - January 2, 2011 Jane was born at home in San Jose, California June 6th, 1923 and passed away peacefully at home January 2, 2011. The daughter of Casper and Josephine McGovern, Jane has one sibling, Terry McGovern, of Clayton, California. Jane spent most of her life in San Jose where she was raised and was a devoted wife and mother. She married Robert T. Greene, also of San Jose, during World War II on April 29, 1944. They spent part of their early marriage in Texas where "Bob" was stationed in the Marines, but settled back in San Jose where they raised their two daughters, Kerry and Shannon. Jane was the ultimate homemaker who loved to sew, cook, garden and participate in many community, school and church events. She had a passion for entertaining and created years of memorable times for her family and friends. Jane was also a lover of all animals. Her pets enjoyed exceptionally long lives under her loving care. Most of all, Jane took exceptional care of her family, always kind, loving and generous. After the death of her husband, Robert in 1986, Jane relocated to the family residence in Aptos, California. In 1989, she married Robert Cowan of Aptos. They enjoyed 6 years of marriage, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Robert passed away in 1995. Jane is survived by her younger brother, Terry McGovern and his wife Ruth, by her daughter, Kerry Van Stockum of Aptos, her daughter, Shannon Greene and her husband Peter Fisher of Seattle, WA, her four grandchildren, Camille Fisher, Philip Van Stockum, Tommy Van Stockum and Briana Fisher. She is also survived by her four step children, Bob Cowan and his wife Joan of Los Gatos, Rick Cowan and his wife Sally of Orinda, Carl Cowan and his wife Lynne of Davis and Nancy Dunn and her husband Chuck of Los Altos, her eight step grandchildren, Nina Lamour, Allyson Penner, Jeff Dunn, Jennifer Bridgman, Bob Cowan, Jessica Geis, Amy and Elizabeth Cowan, and seven great grandchildren, plus one on the way. Jane will be missed by all. A visitation will be held at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. in Santa Cruz on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Resurrection Catholic Church, 7600 Soquel Dr. in Aptos on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 10 o'clock a.m. A committal service will follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St. in Santa Clara, CA beginning at 2 o'clock p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr. Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
