Obituary of Placida Loroña Belasco

Placida Loroa Belasco Placida Loroa Belasco passed away on March 23, 2011 after a brief illness. She was 94. Placida was born on November 13, 1916 in Yuma, Arizona to Jose Maria Loroa and Sara Agundez Loroa. Placida was raised in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. She attended schools in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. Placida married Cristobal Belasco and the couple lived in Calexico for many years, where they raised their eight children. In 1970, Placida and her husband relocated to Salinas, Ca. In 2004, Placida moved to Santa Cruz, CA to live with her daughter, and relocated to Davenport, Ca in 2005 with her daughter. Placida was a seven year resident of Davenport where she lived with her daughter and family. During her life, Placida was very involved with her family and was an avid homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, and made the best bean burritos. Placida always made friends wherever she went. She volunteered at the annual DRSC Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Posadas, Dia de Los Muertos, and volunteered and participated at the Senior Potlucks. Placida was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Cristobal Belasco, and her son, Victor Velasco. She is survived by her children, Virginia E. Serna, Cristobal Belasco, Jose Belasco, Francisco Belasco, Jesus Belasco, Sylvia Musegades, Robert Belasco, 24 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held for Placida on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. in Santa Cruz, beginning at 11 o'clock a.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband at San Juan Bautista Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disco Drive, Scotts Valley, Ca 95066 and El Teatro Campesino, 705 4th Street, San Juan Bautista, CA 95045.
