Obituary of Mary Kusanovich Cross

MARY KUSANOVICH CROSS Services will be held on Monday for Mary Kusanovich Cross who died peacefully at her Aptos home on May 11, 2010. Born in San Francisco, California on October 14, 1913, she moved to Watsonville at the age of 4 and lived most of her life in Santa Cruz County. Her parents, Frank and Dominica Kusanovich were immigrants from Praznice, Brac, Dalmatia, Austria, (now Dalmatia, Croatia), and were orchard growers on a homestead in the Green Valley area. Mary worked in her family's orchard business and was a graduate of Watsonville High School. She married Mark Kusanovich in 1934 and moved to Petaluma, California. Mary was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Aptos, and was active in the Women's Guild. She was also a member of S.A.C.O., Catholic Daughters of America, the Organ Guild, and the Croatian Fraternal Union. She is survived by her daughter, Marion Rita Kusanovich of Aptos, her son, Mark F. Kusanovich of San Jose, three grandchildren, Karen, Kristin, and Michelle, and two great grandchildren, Ida Jane, and Isabelle Morgan. Her sister Clementine Braycovich also survives her. Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Mark Kusanovich in 1975, and John W. Cross in 1979. The oldest of 4 children, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Madeline Scurich and her brother, John Kusanovich. Family and friends will have a Catholic committal service on Monday May 17th at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park in Watsonville, beginning at 10 a.m. where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Mark Kusanovich. Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice.
