Obituary of Ernest Anthony Canepa

Ernest (Babe) A. Canepa March 26, 1919 - January 11, 2011 Babe passed away peacefully on January 11, 2011 at his home in Aptos, California. He was 91. He is survived by Mae, his loving wife of 61 years, son David (Janice) Canepa, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and brother, Angelo (Lucille) Canepa. He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda and son James. Babe was the youngest of nine children, which is how he earned the nickname Babe. Babe attended Soquel Elementary and Santa Cruz High School before joining the Navy on December 8, 1941. He served as a First Class Boatswains Mate through November 15, 1945. After leaving the Navy, Babe came home to Santa Cruz where he worked as a commercial fisherman out of Moss Landing until he retired in 1977. Babe was a very proud and honorable man who was loved and will be missed very much by his family and friends. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Babe's name may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County (940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066).
