Obituary of Odette Marie Scharer

ODETTE MARIE SCHARER Passed away peacefully on April 8, 2011 in Capitola, California, with her loving family by her bedside. She was 89 years old. Odette lived in San Jose and Santa Cruz for the past 50 years, and will forever be remembered as a dedicated mother and grandmother. For more than 47 years, she maintained a career in bookkeeping with the latter years as an accountant for the Dream Inn in Santa Cruz. Odette loved to travel, she and her dear husband Charlie, spent memorable times in Switzerland, France, England, the Middle East, Italy and Argentina. Her talent at knitting exquisite sweaters and hats for her grandchildren will forever be cherished. She had a passion for reading, dancing, dining out, playing Scrabble and watching Jeopardy on television; but her devotion to her family was paramount in her life, her happiest days were when she was with her children and family. She will be forever remembered for the loving time she spent helping her grandchildren to grow and prosper. Odette attended Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz with her daughter and granddaughters. She is survived by her children; Eric (Barbara) Scharer, Catherine (Tim) Young, Charles (Susan) Scharer, Frederick (Julie) Scharer; and her brother George in England. She will be dearly missed by her loving grandchildren, Eric, Melissa, Sabrina, Elizabeth and Emily and her great-granddaughter, Tierney. Also, her nephews, George, Freddie, Arles, and niece, Jane in England, and all her dear family in Switzerland. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Los Gatos Memorial Park, 2255 Los Gatos Almaden Road in San Jose on Friday, April 15, 2011 beginning at 2 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Los Gatos Memorial Park beside her husband, Charles Scharer, who preceded her in death in 1964. They are dancing together again.
