Dominick Saccullo

Obituary of Dominick Saccullo

A funeral mass will be celebrated on January 30th, to say farewell to a loving, father, grandfather, great grandfather, devoted friend, and true gentleman, Dominick Saccullo who passed away at his Santa Cruz home this past weekend. Born in New York City, he was 87 years old. Dominick grew up in New York and loved to tell stories of famous and infamous characters that he would see daily in his primarily Italian immigrant neighborhood. His life in New York might have been interesting to talk about, but Dominick's life really began when he met the love of his life, Gertrude Styles, upon moving to California in 1948. Dominick and Gertie were married on her family's Morgan Hill ranch in 1953. The couple moved to Santa Cruz in 1960 where they worked side by side, owning and managing several grocery stores in the county. In 1976, they opened Dominick's Fish and Poultry Company. Dominick's career spanned over 60 years in the grocery and wholesale food industry. Dominick was very proud of the civic originations he took part in over the years. He served on the LAFCO board, Red Cross board, Stingray Youth Football League board, vice chair of the Marello Prep School Board, and served for two years on the Santa Cruz County Civil Grand Jury. Dominick had a long association with the local Rotary Club serving as president from 1994-1995. After his beloved wife, Gertie, passed Dominick tried very hard to live his life and be active with friends and family. In the end, after a fall at home, Dominick left us to join Gertie to watch over their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren from Heaven. Dominick and Gertie will be remembered as a loving couple who were inseparable and who are together again. Dominick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Sallie and Tracy Molfino of Pacific Grove, his beloved grandchildren, Tim Molfino, Emily Molfino, Katherine Silveira, Judy Molfino, and three great grandchildren; Tucker Silveira, Weston Silveira, and Ada Molfino- Cuffe. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Shannon Saccullo of San Juan Capistrano, and their children; Davie and Connor Saccullo. Friends may pay their respects at a viewing to be held on Monday, January 29th from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at The Shrine of St. Joseph, Guardian of the Redeemer Church (544 West Cliff Drive) on Tuesday, January 30th beginning at 9 a.m. Committal will be private. Any kind acts of charity can be made in Dominick's memory to Hospice of Santa Cruz County or your favorite charity.
