Obituary of Chris Nicholas Sirakides

Chris Nicholas Sirakides died peacefully at home on March 31, the morning after his 83rd birthday. Chris was born in Astoria, NY grew up in Newark, NJ, raised his family of four children in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and moved to Santa Cruz, CA in 1991. Chris was a proud veteran of WWII. Enlisting in the Navy at 17, he served on the USS Independence, among other ships. Chris worked for the Prudential Insurance Co for 29 years. His life's passion was photography, which he further pursued as a professional wedding photographer and videographer in his retirement. Chris was interested in everything . . . as an avid reader he absorbed knowledge on every topic was a terrific conversationalist. Chris loved music and filled his life and home with all kinds of music. He loved cars and was the proud owner of a brand new 1958 Edsel. He loved the ocean and the beach, from Jones Beach NY to Capitola, CA. He was a regular at the Wednesday night concerts in Capitola where folks danced around him in his wheelchair. Chris will be deeply missed by his four children; Greg Sirakides (Robin), Christine Sirakides Thorne (Chuck "C.E."), Helen Sirakides and Nicola Sirakides (Keith Drennen) and grandsons James and Christopher Drennen of whom their "Papou" was very, very proud. Chris loved his two brothers, Leo and Dino and is survived by his younger brother Dino Sirakides. Viewing and prayer service will be on Wednesday, April 6 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm (prayer service at 6:00pm) at the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church 223 Church Street, Santa Cruz. Funeral services will be at 11am on Thursday, April 7 at Prophet Elias. Please consider donations to The Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Chris' memory. May his memory be eternal.
