Obituary of Joseph Byrne

Joseph Byrne April 25, 1928 - October 5, 2010 Winifred Byrne November 19, 1929 - April 18, 2004 Services will be private for Joseph Byrne who passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. He was 82. Joseph was born in Dublin, Ireland on April 25, 1928, the son of John and Elizabeth (Shaw) Byrne. He grew up in Dublin where he attended all Catholic schools. He served in the British Army in Palestine from 1948 to 1950. He resided in England and New York before making Santa Cruz his home. Joseph worked for St Clare's Retreat House in Soquel and later retired from William Wrigley Jr. Company in Santa Cruz. Joseph was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and was devoted to his faith. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Byrne on April 18, 2004 and his seven brothers and sisters, Frank Byrne, Christian Carter, John Byrne, Teresa Una Curtis, Betty Mitchell, Frederick Byrne and Nancy Graham. He is survived by his brother, Gerald Byrne of Santa Cruz; nephews, Sean Byrne and his wife, Annette and Neil Byrne and his wife, Elizabetha; great niece, Camellia Byrne Munoz and her husband, Lucas Munoz. He is also survived by numerous other nieces and nephews residing in Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, New York, Los Angeles and South Africa. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Jeannine Rodems, Driftwood Health Care Center and Heartland Hospice for the loving care given to Joseph during his illness and to Rev. Mike Marini for the churches blessings. A private family service will be held. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA. In lieu of flowers contributions are referred to your favorite charity.
