Obituary of Bessie Bilsland Tara

BESSIE BILSLAND TARA A memorial service will be held Friday in Aptos. for Bessie Tara who passed away at Aegis of Aptos on September 24, 2010. She was 92 years old. Born in Sheldon, Iowa, she was the last remaining member of O'Brien County pioneer families. She moved to California in 1935 and to Santa Cruz in 1940. She loved her home and was a fabulous cook. Bessie also was an avid collector of cook books, and owned and operated two delicatessens in East Santa Cruz. She was a member of Twin Lakes Church since 1950, and in her younger years, was a caregiver to many with failing health. She will be remembered by many loving nieces and nephews as a loving and devoted aunt. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at Twin Lakes Church (2701 Cabrillo College Dr.) in Monschke Hall on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Bessie will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Park in Santa Cruz, beside her beloved husband, Vance Tara who preceded her in death in October of 2003.
