Katherine Alloway

Obituary of Katherine Genevieve Alloway

Katherine Genevieve Alloway A long time Capitola resident, Katherine Alloway passed away after an extended illness, late in the evening of January 13, 2011, just one week before her 93rd birthday, surrounded by family. Born in Chinese Camp, California on January 20, 1918, Katie was the second child of John and Costanza Siri Olmo, immigrants from the Piemonte region of Northern Italy. Katie grew up in what was then a vineyard in Escalon, and attended Ripon High School. It was in the Escalon area that she met and married her late husband, William T. Alloway, who served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army-Air Force during World War II. After Bill's return from his tour of duty in Europe, the couple followed job opportunities, moving to several California towns, including South San Francisco, where Katie gave birth to their first two children, Steve and Kathleen, and Palo Alto, where Katie gave birth to Rosanne. In 1963, Katie and Bill moved the family and settled in Capitola. Katie loved Capitola, where she could do her favorite things - walk, ride her bike, tend her garden, and simply relax while soaking in the sunshine. Her roses, which lined her little corner of the world, was admired by all who passed by. Katie will be remembered for her service to her community, her church and to those in need. She and her late husband Bill were among the founding fathers of the ICF at St. Joseph's Church, where they were active parishioners for over 50 years, and she was beloved by the elderly who she assisted and provided companionship. Katie was devoted to her family. She adored her children and grandchildren, and was so very proud of the persons all the babies grew up to become. She was also very proud of her remarkable raviolis - just like Katie herself, often imitated, but never duplicated. Katie was preceded in death by her father John, mother Costanza, half-brother Gabe, brothers John and Louis, and husband William Alloway. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Elisa Alloway of Placerville, and her daughters and sons-in law Kathleen and Steve Tish of San Clemente, and Rosanne and Miles Reiter of Aptos; and her grandchildren Brian Alloway, David Alloway, Brie Reiter, Allison Reiter, Miles Reiter, Sydney Reiter and Gregory Alloway. Memorial services will be private. The family would like to thank the staff at the Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, and Olga Land for their assistance and their loving care.
