Obituary of Addie Jane Burgess

ADDIE BURGESS A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Monday evening in Santa Cruz for Addie Burgess who died on August 23, 2010 at Dominican Hospital. "Dolly", as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, would have celebrated her 88th birthday on Oct. 2nd. Born in Fried, North Dakota, she was a registered nurse with a career that spanned over 40 years in health care. As a registered nurse, Dolly served her country during WW II in the US Navy. She continued her career in Santa Monica, California for many years, following the conclusion of the war. A long time resident of Palm Desert, she moved to Santa Cruz area in 1998. She made many friends at Oak Tree Villa in Scotts Valley, where she lived for many years. One of 15 children, twelve siblings preceded her in death. Dolly is survived by her brother and sister in law, Peter and Stella (Ghio) Kachel of Livermore, and her sister, Agatha Franta of Minnesota. She also leaves a dear friend, Eddie Castro, two step daughters, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Her family will always remember Dolly's devotion to the Blessed Mother and the rosary, which she would recite daily. The vigil and rosary will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz, beginning at 7 p.m. A private burial will follow at a later date in Riverside, California, where she will be interred beside her husband of 34 years, Cliff Burgess who died in 1996.
