Obituary of Teresa Antoinette Delucchi

Teresa A. Delucchi Services will be Wednesday for Teresa A. Delucchi who passed away February 16, 2011 at Dominican Hospital. She was 90. Teresa was born in Santa Cruz on December 4, 1920, the daughter of Antonio and Pasqualina (Siri) Caviglia. Her father Antonio, died at the Loma Prieta Lumber Company in Aptos four months before her birth. As a young girl she grew up in the "Baranca" on the west side of Santa Cruz. She attended Bay View Elementary School and was a graduate of Santa Cruz High School, class of 1939. As a young woman she worked for Levi Strauss Company on Front St and also for Stokely's Cannery in Seabright. On February 9, 1952 she married Albert Delucchi and moved to the farm on Branciforte Drive where she and Albert raised pigs and had an apple and pear orchard. Albert was the love of her life and she was so happy living on the farm, where she an Albert spent 59 years until his death in 1994. Teresa continued to live independently on the farm for 17 years until just days before her death. Teresa was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. She was described by her family as a devoted wife and a loving aunt. In her younger years she and her friends would often take her nieces to basketball games at the Civic Auditorium, to the Boardwalk and on other adventures. Perhaps her greatest adventure was traveling to Italy with her niece, Esther, to visit her cousins and her mother and father's birthplace in Piampaludo, Italy. She is survived by her cousin, Andy Caviglia of Santa Cruz, who was raised as a son by her mother Pasqualina; her nieces, Esther Wilson and her husband Bob, Josephine Ferrin and her husband Bill, Elaine Seidel and her husband Dan and Judy Grassi and her husband Mike; her nephews, David Delucchi and his wife, Dorothy and Richard Delucchi and his wife Gerry. She was also survived numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Teresa and Albert were honored to be the Godparents of Elaine Seidel and Kathy Pappas. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Delucchi on August 4, 1994; her father, Antonio Caviglia in 1920; her mother, Pasqualina Siri Caviglia in 1968; her sister, Susie Frizza in 1964 and her brother, Henry Caviglia in 1968. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 515 Frederick St, Santa Cruz, CA on Wednesday February 23, 2011 at 11:00 am. Arrangements are under the direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St, Santa Cruz, CA. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 2271 7th Ave., Santa Cruz, CA.
