Obituary of Mary P Ottem

Mary P. Ottem Mary P. Ottem a 60-year resident of Santa Cruz passed away Monday May 24, 2010 in Sierra Vista Arizona. She passed quietly in her sleep after a long illness. Mary was born November 20, 1924 in Santa Cruz to Mr. and Mrs. Achille Castagnola, Italian emigrates from Genoa. She came from a large and very close family of three brothers (Achille, Louie, and Johnny) and four sisters (Parma, Minnie, Eleanor and Margaret). Mary married Aldo J. Cattera while he was in the Navy; in 1947, they produced a son Aldo V. Cattera who resides in Sierra Vista Arizona. After a divorce, she remarried Iver E. Ottem in 1953 and settled in Palo Alto until 1974. In 1974, they moved to Santa Cruz where they enjoyed life together until the death of Iver in 1996. Upon her Son's return from England in 2001, Mary moved to Sierra Vista Arizona to be close to her son and daughter-in-law. She made many new friends to include Frank a close friend who helped support her through her illness. Mary is survived by her son, Vince Cattera and daughter-in-law Chong; sister, Eleanor Prather; grandsons, Tony Cattera and his wife Ruth and Edward Post; grand daughter, Cheryl Hopper; great grandchildren, Jakum Cattera, Alyssa Cattera, and Dyllon Hopper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Iver E. Ottem; her brothers, Achille, Louie and Johnny; her sisters, Parma, Minnie and Margaret and her parents. Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Chapel 1050 Cayuga Street Santa Cruz.on Wednesday June 2, 2010 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm. A private service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 2271 7th Ave, Santa Cruz, CA.
