Joseph Garcia

Obituary of Joseph G. Garcia

A celebration of a great life lived was held for our beloved Papa Joe aka Joe Garcia. Surrounded by his closest loved ones in his Santa Cruz home, Joe passed away peacefully when called to rest by God on Friday, May 28, 2010. Already a man of great faith, Joe grew closer to God during his last couple years here with us, allowing him to feel acceptance during a period of illness. All of those around him noticed how his faith kept him strong and ready to surrender to God's will, whatever it may be. Joe was born on July 2, 1943 in McQueeney, Texas to Seferina Gallegos Garcia and Pablo Garcia. In 1968, he moved to Santa Cruz with his wife Soila, where they went on to raise four children. Joe worked at Salz Tannery for 34 years and after its closing worked at the County of Santa Cruz for 5 years. His family meant everything to him and he generously worked to provide for them his entire life. Joe loved to joke and play around with people. His great sense of humor and friendly nature, causing those in his presence to feel at ease, was appreciated and will be missed. Papa Joe is survived by his wife of 45 years, Soila; children, Joe Jr., Teresa, Joanna, John Paul and Jesse; grandchildren, Briana, Halle, Esteban, Malina, Pablito, Emmanuel, and Eros; Sister, Connie; Brothers, Aucencion, Gilbert, and Ray; son-in-laws, Lalo and Jorge. Also, he will finally be united with his first (still)born son, Carlos. A special thanks to Jesse for supporting Soila in taking quality care of Papa Joe. Arrangements are under the direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel. Contributions: Soila Garcia 1040 38th Ave. Space #24 Santa Cruz, CA 95062.
