Obituary of Mary Alice Fisher

Mary Alice Fisher Resident of Aptos, CA Mary was born in West Orange, New Jersey January 16th 1919 and passed away December 13th 2010. The daughter of Vincent and Anne Kane, Mary was the second child of eleven. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John, of Aptos, CA and three children, son, Terry Fisher and wife Diana of Junction City, OR, son, Thomas Fisher and wife Debby of Barstow, CA and daughter, Theresa Fisher of San Francisco, CA, and six grandchildren, Keith, Brian, Elizabeth, Jessica, Justin, and Brianna, and her one great grandson, Ethan. She is also survived by her brother Ronald Kane, and his wife Betty, and by her sister Virginia Thompson of New Jersey. Mary obtained her B.A. degree from Panzer College in New Jersey, which is now Montclair State University. She then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Petty Officer Specialist 1st class, where Mary met her husband John. They were married at her family home on January 1, 1947. Traveling west after they were married, Mary and John settled in Northern California. Here, Mary obtained her California teaching certificate at San Francisco State College. Mary taught school for several years following, in various California cities. In 1962, Mary and John moved to Sunnyvale where they lived for 10 years. Here, Mary joined the Cupertino De Oro Club, where she remained a member to the present. In 1974 John and Mary moved to Aptos. Mary joined the Dominican Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for 35 years, twice serving as President. Mary also belonged to the Seagals 9 Hole Group at the Aptos Seascape Golf Club where she enjoyed playing golf. She was and remains very much loved by her friends and family. A Visitation will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. in Santa Cruz on Thursday, December 16, 2010 beginning at 5 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. A Mass celebrating her life will be held at Resurrection Church, 7600 Soquel Dr. in Aptos, on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. The Graveside service will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd. in Santa Cruz, on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donation can be made to the Dominican Hospital Foundation, 1555 Soquel Dr. Santa Cruz, CA 95065; or Women's Memorial Foundation, P.O.
