Philip DuBeau

Obituary of Philip A. DuBeau

1/3/1959 – 1/24/2023

Philip DuBeau was born in Corpus Christi Texas to Kenneth George DuBeau and Elsa Mercedes Madrigal.  One of 8 siblings, Philip grew up in south Texas enjoying sports and surfing in the gulf.   He loved his large family and when times were tough, he stepped up to help his mother and his siblings.  He played football in high school and planned to play college football but sustained a knee injury that derailed his college football aspirations.  Philip was strong and took on hard jobs including working in the oil fields. In the 1980’s Philip moved to southern California to work with his sister, Carol. He loved spending time with her two young children, Andrea and Danny. He later worked with Carol and his brother Joe in Carol’s accounting and computer business.  He met his wife Lora in LA and they eventually moved to Monterey then Santa Cruz.  While in Monterey, Philip attended Monterey Peninsula Community College and then transferred to UC Santa Cruz to attain his BA in Economics (1990).  After graduation Philip traveled to Costa Rica to meet his mother’s family. There he experienced the source of the beauty and the joy she carried with her. Philip had an avid interest in national and world affairs and a memory for history that that amazed.  Philip loved learning.  He especially loved learning at UCSC and working as a TA in the economics department. It was one of his happiest times.  Philip was part of the Silicon Valley networking world for many years. When Philip and Lora adopted their son, Sergey, from Russia he brought his career closer to home working for Sutter Health so that he could be an active and engaged father for Sergey.  Philip retired from Sutter Health in 2020.  Philip is survived by his wife, Lora Lee Martin, his son, A. Sergey DuBeau, Siblings: Kenny (Reba), Renee Carter (Gary), Carol, Dorothy (Daniel), Charlie (Nancy), Karen, and Joe and numerous nephews and nieces.  He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Robert.
