Obituary of Rosalie Pizzo-Strain

 

April 18, 1931 – February 26, 2023

Rosalie passed away peacefully at home in Santa Cruz, California at the young age of 91.

Daughter of Rose Phillips and Fred Verador.

Sister to Fred Eglip (deceased), Warren Robles, Ronald Robles, and Joyce Thomas

Mother to 3 children. John (Gail-spouse), David (Gwen-spouse), Leah (Matt-spouse)

Grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Loving wife to husbands, Joe Pizzo (deceased), Alan Strain (deceased) and

partner to Ted Nickelson (deceased).

Born in San Francisco, California where she lived and raised her family before moving to the peninsula.

and then to Santa Cruz.

She was a well-loved and active member of the Quaker Religious Society of Friends and worked for the Friends Committee on National Legislation for many years in San Francisco.

Rosalie enjoyed flower arranging, especially Ikebana and displaying her flowers all around the lobby of Piedmont Court where she lived. She was known as the flower lady of Piedmont Court.

She was an accomplished artist guided by instinct with pencil and paper in a free form style.

Rosalie also enjoyed doing tai chi daily in the lovely gardens of her home and maintained the exuberance of youth throughout her life.

She had many loved ones whom she embraced as her dear friends throughout the years.

Rosalie’s huge loving heart was always filled with acceptance and empathy for all those around her and she cared deeply for all living things around the world.

Memorial services will be held at the Santa Cruz Friends Meeting house on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Refreshments will be served following the service.
