Obituary of Lillian Guzman

Heaven received its newest Angel when Lillian Irene(Tori) Guzman finished her journey on Earth May 17th,2023, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Lillian was welcomed into the world on October 17,1925, to proud parents Gina and Peter Tori and brother Caesar. She was born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA. She attended Holy Cross, where she graduated in 1944. She married Frank Guzman on April 13, 1947, and they were married for 47 years before his passing in 1994. They had two daughters, Francine Kerr and Darlene Hastings. Lillian was a member of the Holy Cross Church and Young Ladies Institute (YLI). She enjoyed attending BBQs, dinners and bus trips sponsored by the Italian Catholic Federation (ICF). In her early years, she worked at the family-owned restaurant, El Travatore. She also worked as a waitress at Adolph’s and Miramar and then went on to work at Marini’s Candies. Lillian loved the holidays and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lillian was known for her amazing homemade spaghetti sauce. She loved taking trips to San Diego to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her niece, Irene and great-nephew, Michael Iacopi, fulfilled her lifelong dream to travel to Italy. Lillian is survived by her daughters, Francine Kerr(David), Darlene Hastings; much-loved grandchildren, Jennifer Kerr, Kristen Hastings-Barkman (Dave), Brenda Kerr-Jozsa (Ryan), Kevin Hastings, Stacey Weckler-Kerr(Andy) and her beloved great-grandchildren: Justin, Kelsey, and Emma Barkman, Gabriella and Bella Jozsa, and Adelyn and Owen Weckler-Kerr. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews and family friends. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Frank Guzman, her parents, Gina and Peter Tori, brother Caesar Tori (Elsie), brother-in-law Joe Guzman (Pat Anderson),sister-in-law Delores Lombardi (Dante), and son-in-law Donald Hastings. The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Mary Patz and her assistant Jane, the many caregivers with Lifespan and Hospice who provided comfort, excellent care and compassion. A special thank you to Sister Mary and Sister Mimi for their many home visits. Visitation and viewing will be held on Friday, June 9th from 3-7 pm at Pacific Gardens Chapel. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held directly following the visitation. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 10th at 11am at Holy Cross Church.
