Obituary of Joan M. Lorenzana

A private committal will be held for Joan Lorenzana who passed away in the company of loving family and friends following a battle with cancer.  Born in Fort Worth, Texas, she was 73 years old.

Joan moved from her native Texas with her family to San Jose, attended grade school at Campbell Grammar School and graduated from Del Mar High School.  She attended Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks before returning to reside in Santa Cruz where she was active in collecting and brokering antiques, camping, hiking and canoeing.

For more than 27 years, she worked at the former New Leaf Market in Felton (currently Wild Roots Community Market) and leaves countless friends and customers who truly appreciated and recognized her special gift of actively caring for others.

Joan loved to travel, but did not necessarily enjoy flying.  Cherished memories will live on of her trips to visit family and friends in Texas; staying for weeks and even months on end.  She was an accomplished cook, and once settled in from her travels, treated her loved ones to beautifully prepared organic dinners.

She is survived by her two sisters and brother-in-law, Judith and Vic Gregorie of Vista, California, and Nancy Meek of Beaumont, Texas.  She also leaves loving nieces, Lesley Biscamp, Lauren Hancock, Robin Meek, Angela Ruscigno and Marlo Ruscigno, and a nephew, Russell Ruscigno, as well as great-nieces and nephews, Lindsay Biscamp, Elizabeth Clark, Nicholas Handcock and Jeremy Handcock, and her local loving angel friends and caretakers Andi Hernendez, Jane Madsen, Sharon Smith, and Mary Clark, who stayed with her and helped with her peaceful transition.  Joan will always be the beautiful natural person who we shall never forget.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Joan on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the following residence: 395 Ryder Road (off Lockhart Gulch Road) in Scotts Valley, CA from 12:00 – 3:00 PM.  There will be BBQ provided and please bring a dish to share.
