Obituary of Henry Menezes
Henry Vierra Menezes, long-time resident of Santa Cruz passed away April 24, 2018 at Valley Haven Convalescent Hospital after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was 86. Henry was born November 11, 1931 in San Jose, CA, the son of Joaquin Vierra Menezes and Mary Souza Menezes. He was raised in San Jose and Gustine and then moved to Santa Cruz in 1956.
Henry worked thirty five years at Plantronics, he was a quality control engineer. Henry was a passionate Trombone player and Ham Radio Operator. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Aptos and played with five bands, including; the Gustine City Band, Watsonville Band, Blue and Red Circus Band, Watsonville Brass Band and the Tuesday Jazz Band.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gena Perry Menezes; son, James Menezes; daughters, Susan Garner and Patty Kaemingk; step-daughters, Debby Haskin and Sandy Laren and his brother, Joaquin Menezes. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Julie Dollahite; sister, Rita Dunkle and half brothers, Joe, Harold, Alfred and Frank Dutra.
A viewing will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel 1050 Cayuga St, Santa Cruz, CA on Monday April 30, 2018 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Resurrection Catholic Church, 7600 Soquel Dr., Aptos, CA on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at 10:00 am.
